This was recommended by one of the local fishermen on Jekyll island. Good recommendation Captain Eric! Family had a great time. We got our table in half the time we were told. Menu was simple but great choices. They bragged about their fried shrimp and rightfully so. We had a party of 11including 2 children. Every one enjoyed their food. Shrimp was fried well and not over breaded! Crab cakes were good and not too breaded. Kids enjoyed the complimentary ice cream. Check it out if you are near St. Simon Island GA.

Eh it's ok! Not the best seafood. But good. I will say the customer service is awesome and the food is good. I feel like it's over priced for the quality. Seems like a tourist spot that may get lots of business because of location. Couldn't really say much about the food. I packed most of it. It was just ok. The appetizer was good, we ordered shrimp. Can't really go wrong with that! If you are visiting maybe just go for appetizers but save your money for a better seafood spot in town. Wouldn't come back, nothing to rave about.

I must say as a local, I have never eaten at Iguanas. It just always seemed like a tourist place for me, so I never went. That was until last week (lunch). I ordered the fried shrimp which was very tasty. The sides were decent (coleslaw and pasta salad) and the apps we got (parmesan grilled oysters and bacon wrapped shrimp) were awesome, taste-wise. I also ordered a Pina-Colada which I enjoyed very much. Our waitress was great and attentive and the food came out quickly and hot. The only thing I did not care for was the hush puppies, which were a little small and overcooked. Price-wise it was a little more higher than I usually want to pay, but we had a guest with us and they also thought the food was great, so that was all that mattered.

Let me open with this, Yum!!! This place was my favorite in this neck of the woods. We ordered the shrimp platter appetizer and the clam strip appetizer and they were super tasty. The bacon wrapped shrimp was the super star of this dish. A special shout out for the fried clams and tarter sauce. The food was hot and fresh. We were seated right away with drinks in our hands immediately, which in this sticky southern heat is a big plus. Our server Larrissa was a phenomenal server, helpful, nice and attentive. Thank you Larrissa !!! After a hot climb to the top of the lighthouse this was the perfect respite. If you find yourself hanging out on St. Simon island make sure you stop by Iguana's and hopefully you'll get a server as awesome as Larrissa.

We enjoyed yet another fabulous meal at Iguanas this weekend! The blackened shrimp is to die for! I have never left disappointed.

Loved the fried flounder and shrimp platter!!! The decor is super dated and a little overwhelming but the service was prompt and friendly and the place was busy! Must be doing something right!

When something is voted "the best" of something, it is an instant attraction. But it also comes with some expectations. Iguanas Seafood on Saint Simons was pretty good, but the best is gong a little over the top. First was the beverage menu, which had a nice selection of interesting concoctions. I am a beer drinker, always on the lookout for something either local or interesting. They had Kentucky Bourbon Ale on tap, which was nice to see. Three of us had something with fried shrimp, since that is what they are "the best" at. My wife had coconut shrimp. They were good...fresh, lightly battered and tasty. The best? That's a bit much. If you like to eat fried, Iguanas is your place. I am very disappointed at the wait staff who failed to inform us of the complimentary ice cream! We were completely unaware of it, and it would have been an awesome treat. Minus points for that. Saint Simons Island has great places to eat. Iguanas Seafood Restaurant is good if you're looking for some decent fried food, a couple of good beverage choices and a casual dining experience. If your looking for something more eclectic or for something with more of a local "flavor", you might want to pass on this one.

My family of 10 truly enjoyed this place! The kids really enjoyed the complimentary ice cream bar! The prices are extremely reasonable and the food is delicious! The outside patio area is wonderful, you feel the wonderful beach breeze and can people watch as tourist and locals walk the streets in pier village! I will definitely return and enjoy the delicious food, breeze and views!

Visited this place with my family for my 21st birthday (on the recommendation of a family friend), and it was definitely the right decision. As a Florida native, I am very used to high-quality, fresh seafood, and this place really delivered! I really enjoyed the casual island atmosphere of the place, and appreciated that it was clean despite the building being on the older side. They had an impressive menu of mixed drinks. I played it safe and ordered their piña colada, which was perfect. The staff were some of the most competent and friendly I've personally ever met, and the wait time for the food was very reasonable; however, we had dinner around 5:30 and the place was fairly vacant, so that might have affected it. All the food was hot and fresh when we received it, and everyone loved what they ordered. I ordered fried mahi-mahi and scallops, which were both tasty and perfectly cooked. While I'm not usually a shrimp person, I am also a huge fan of the shrimp at Iguana's, as it was very sweet, fairly sized in comparison to what you normally get at seafood restaurants, and had just the right amount of breading on them. Their clam strips are also probably the biggest I've ever seen served in a restaurant. The only flaw I can find with this place is that finding street parking can be a (small) hassle when the pier area is crowded, but other than that, this place is perfect when you want a casual meal with great seafood. I will definitely be eating at this place whenever possible!

Fantastic shrimp! I tried the blackened shrimp and I have to say, it was perfect. The blackening wasn't too spicy and it let you still taste the shrimp. The shrimp were huge and fresh. My wife had the fried shrimp and they were great too. They were lightly dusted and fried perfectly. The prices are unbelievable. I don't know how they can give you such a great meal at such a low price.

We were recently down in this area for a wedding. Our toddler was cooped up for several days and we wanted to get out and explore. There's a little water park nearby that we were having a lot of fun at and then a rainstorm came. We decided to wait it out by finding a place to grab a quick bite to eat. That's how we stumbled onto Iguana's. Much like other reviews have stated, the shrimp. Definitely something special! We ordered a sampler - the fried shrimp fantastic, the coconut shrimp excellent, and bacon wrapped shrimp was seriously one of the most delicious things I have eaten. My partner also said the buffalo shrimp was great (not my style so he ate them all). He also ordered the clam poboy. As a chef he commented, "this is how you do up a poboy right!" We also sampled the cocktails. My partner had a cocktail that was the special of the day - some sort of blueberry concoction. It was delicious. I ordered the one that had vodka, rum, pineapple juice. Very simple but also delicious. The waitstaff was absolutely fantastic. Our waitress was just adorable, she helped us so much with our toddler and didn't get frustrated with us when he threw things on the floor. Overall this is a fantastic experience for us. I understand that other reviews are looking at this more as a touristy kind of place but since we were in the area to be tourists it was absolutely what we were looking for.

We ate here before about three years ago so when we visited the island we had to make this a stop. The shrimp is amazing and all locally caught which i always look for. My wife had the fried grouper fish sandwiches and I had fried shrimp. The fish was firm, mild and lightly breaded. The shrimp were large, firm and also lightly breaded. Everything was delicious and the service was very good. Great place to eat and I can't wait to go back again.

I enjoyed today with my family, friendly service, Good was good, shrimp is the specialty... Got the Shrimp combo appetizer I would go again

Amazing seafood. Voted best fried shrimp 7 years running and they did live up to that title. We had the calamari in Thai sauce for our appetizer and it was delicious. We shared the Pick 3 Combo and it was more than enough food to share. Fried clam strips, fried shrimp and crab cakes. Commentary ice cream for everyone. Ambiance was exactly what you would think for a seafood joint. Great servers and amazing service!

  • Todd P.

Good Beer selection for SSI. Good food, nice menu, friendly staff. Great location. This joint has made it here on the Island with solid offerings. Bring back the Jager Machine and let the hostesses know that well behaved kids can sit at the bar and you won't be able to get rid of me! Owner is a stand-Up guy which is always a plus!

Finally! A decent restaurant in this sleepy town! Christopher was our waiter, and he was great (excellent recommendations and a quirky sense of humor)....Prob the first person around here with an actual personality! I recommend the Angry Pirate drink, the shrimp sampler app, the raw oysters (Much, Much, MUCH better than the Half Shell up the street), and the mussels. We'll be back next trip

  • Reese S.

Nice! The food was good. They have shrimps and several different flavors and ways they prepare them. I had the crab cakes and they were good. Not too greasy. The staff was nice . The managers made it their duty to speak with everyone. They even have complimentary ice cream. You can fix a bowl or a cone yourself. They have a machine. However, they should stress to the customers to not let their children play with it or even touch it. I saw a small child take drip tray and put it on the floor and kick it around. Of course the staff didn't do anything. Nor did they take the try to the kitchen to be cleaned.

Wonderful food at great prices! The service is always friendly and you can't beat free ice cream for dessert!

We tried to go for dinner on a Monday night, but left because it was crowded and felt very "touristy". After looking at the online menu again, we decided to try lunch... So glad we gave Iguana's a second opportunity! It was not crowded at all at noon and we sat right down. Our waiter was so friendly and attentive. I had the bacon-wrapped shrimp and I completely understand why it is "best shrimp on the island". It may be the best shrimp that I have ever eaten!! My friend had the shrimp po-boy and gave me a shrimp to taste. It was fried with a very light batter and delicious!! I also recommend the grits!!

I've had better seafood from other local restaurants. It's okay. I haven't been since they've remodeled. Service is pretty good. Ask for William

If you have ever been to St Armand's Circle in Sarasota Iguanas seafood restaurant in Pier village is an area just like that. The restaurant was filled with retirees which made us pause and think we should go somewhere else but we decided to try it out. For appetizers we had the bacon wrapped shrimp. The shrimp was fresh Coastal Georgia shrimp. It wasn't as large as we thought it should be but it did taste fresh with a tangy sauce. We also got chicken wings with Caribbean sauce. It had no taste at all, but the manager asked us and we told him and he took it off of our bill. I had the blackened grouper meal which was great! The grouper was seasoned and blackened to perfection. The meal came with cole slaw which was to sweet, hush puppies which were okay and fries which were seasoned and fried to perfection. My boyfriend got the blackened grouper over grits. Again his fish was as terrific as mined seasoned and blackened to perfection and the Georgia grits were great. The servers and hostess were super friendly And helpful. The customer service was terrific!

Two of us for lunch ... We had a shrimp po boy and a fish sandwich and both of us had a baked potato. In brief, the fish sandwich did not taste like grouper and the texture was not as expected. Maybe it was; maybe not. (Was it swai?) The shrimp po boy generally tasted good but cole slaw which was VERY watery was applied to it and the sandwich came sitting in liquid. I asked for grilled shrimp on my po boy and the shrimp came breaded and deep fried. Our baked potatoes were very much overcooked. I asked for an IPA (beer). I was told "we really don't have any -- we're a family restaurant." (Yes, that's exactly what the server said.) I ordered a "Magic Hat #9" -tasteless. All-in-all? We see no reason to go back -- and likely will not.

Very friendly servers, laid back atmosphere. Wonderful experience. Crab and shrimp are a little pricey raw oysters were fresh and served on ice.

    (4)
  • Jeff D.

I would give the shrimp 4 stars. All other items were in the 2-3 range. Oyster appetizer was not the best. I would recommend this place if you are a shrimp lover.

  • Mike A.

Fresh, locally sourced shrimp fried to perfection, the best oysters ive had in a minute. Staff is quick and the location near the pier is an easy place to meet up for dinner. dog friendly patio- waitress brought out a slice of bacon for pooch with water along with my drink order right after being seated. Shrimp and oysters are the go to- shrimp has a sweet flavor just like gulf shrimp and oysters served on the half shell were very fresh. after you are done indulging in gluttony, cool it off with the complementary ice cream bar

  • Blaine S.

Very friendly service. Food came quickly and was delicious. My grandad said they had the best fried shrimp he had ever eaten, and the shrimp and grits were delicious. Nice and relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely go again

We just had raw oysters BC my wife had that gut feeling about the food. Oysters were ok but they definitely need to train staff on how to properly serve am oyster. There was dirt and still attached to the shell.

Very popular place. We were recommended to eat here by several people while visiting. We were seated right away, so only a couple minute wait. The waitress was very kind and friendly. She informed us that the shrimp was voted "Best Shrimp on the Island 8 years in a row". After ordering our dinner, we waited a really long time and then started noticing that everyone around us started getting their food. As we were noticing this, the waitress came over and apologized that something happened to our order. As she was walking away the manager stopped by to apologize and offered us a free bottle of wine to makeup for our wait. Although we love wine we decided beer was more appropriate for our dinner choice. When we finally got our food, it was very good. The shrimp was the best option! We enjoyed our dinner and the company was great. Although I didn't need to eat the complimentary ice cream I was kind of sad that they ran out of vanilla. But I guess it saved me some calories. Over all great experience.

Eaten here twice. Both times not impressed. Coconut shrimp far too beaded and over cooked. Service efficient but devoid of personality. Just all in all a mediocre place.

  • Ann L.

The shrimp was delicious, but the food came out ten minutes after we ordered - which was just not a very pleasant dining experience. Also, this place has beyond tacky decor....

  • John S.

My wife and I came down for a business trip and ate dinner here. We were not disappointed. The shrimp was some of the best I have ever had and the service and out door seating was a nice way to spend a early Friday evening. if your in town I would definitely recommend you trying it.

A group of 5 went yesterday after a day at the beach hoping to get some good food. We were sat down quickly even though busy and that is why they get 1 star. After that it all went down hill. I ordered a steak and crab legs. When the steak was brought it was the wrong meal and no crab legs. The steak was well done and obviously not mine The waitress came and told me she would correct it. She brought back the correct steak with crab legs but it too was well done and not medium as asked. I waited for her to come back to check on us but she didn't return for some time. When she did I had already made it up in my mind to just eat it as I was starving. She never asked if I wanted another drink the entire meal. She would bring and drop off waters to others in the group but would turn and go not checking on us. Finally Whe. I got the bill she asked how was my food so I told her. She had the nerve to say why did I wait so long to same something and I politely told her well you never asked me... she said she would "fix" the issue and came back with the exact same bill.. Not sure how the issue was fixed but we definitely won't be going back to waste 50.00non chappy food and bad service. There were issues with the others food and service but I don't want to write a novel. Stay away from this place.

I've had grits before. The sauce with the Shrimp & Grits was great Best food we had so far on our vacation

Top notch food/drinks. Fantastic prices on the Bud Light draft. We went on a Friday night and it was $2.50 per beer all day. Haven't seen prices like that since Phoenix. Food is spectacular as well. I ordered the 1 and 1 combo which came with Fried Flounder and Fried Shrimp. The shrimp and flounder were both savory, especially the shrimp. I was also very impressed with the service. Case and point, the waiter acknowledged my friend that his appetizer would be ready in "13 minutes." Just for sh*ts and giggles, I had started my stopwatch just to see whether he would be on point with the eta. The appetizer came out in 12 min 14 seconds. The chicken wings were also delicious to boot. The fried shrimp is a must try here. Great place to eat seafood and to grab a drink!

No doubt the best fried shrimp on the island! Iguanas is very very good and the service was great! Try the buffalo shrimp...so good!

    (5)
  • Nicole C.

It's a good place in a great location on the main street in St. Simons. Long wait...but if you are an adult, go next door to Rafters for a couple drinks while you wait. Iguanas will text you and let you know when your table is ready. We were on the hunt for boiled crabs, to no avail. The closest we could get were snow-crab legs. Iguanas did have those and they were delicious! So our table of 6 had a very large order of snow-crab legs as well as French fries (yummy), hush puppies, and coleslaw. All of which were really good. Free soft serve ice cream bar in the corner of the restaurant. Is that ever bad?!

Can you say packed on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays? Yes it super packed and wait times can be long. So what makes this place attractive beside it's proximity to the lighthouse? Georgia white shrimp-Period. If you've never had GA white ship, it is slightly sweet in the medium to large size range and when cooked it's white. Compared to other shrimp that turn pink, this one turns white and is slightly sweet. I had the shrimp platter with hush puppies-no onions, French fries-good, and coleslaw-very sweet. I am not a fan of sweet coleslaw and the flavor was lacking. The atmosphere is loud and the bar is very busy if you can find a seat at all. Your best bet is to come on the weekdays or sit at the bar solo. My plate had 15-19 medium sized shrimps and it cost me 18-19 dollar with a tip; total cost $25 for one. I would visit this place again and my 4 stars proves that. Pros- GA white shrimp, shrimp and grits, etc. Cons- Pricey, sweet coleslaw-poor flavor, hard to find parking and noise.

Two words: fried shrimp! Hands down, the BEST fried shrimp I have ever had and their homemade dipping sauce?! AMAZING. I come to St.Simons once a year and have to visit this place at least three times to get my fill of the best fried shrimp I have ever had. Ate there a few night ago and gave up some of the yummy shrimp in order to try the crab cake. Was very worried as I love the shrimp and I was afraid to give any up for something that wasn't as good. However, I shouldn't have worried as the crab cake was awesome!

  • David Y.

Cool restaurant, near the pier. Fun, tourist-y interior. The service is pretty good, pricing is about what you might expect from a tourist seafood joint. Now, the food - in my opinion, the whole reason to come here is the fried shrimp. The other stuff on the menu that we tried was OK, but the fried Georgia wild shrimp are quite possibly the best shrimp I've ever tasted. I also tried the scallops - they were both over-cooked and under-cooked at the same time. I didn't know this was possible, but apparently, it is. Again, it wasn't bad, I've just had way better. The crab cake was just OK, nowhere near as good as a real Baltimore crab cake. Complimentary ice cream is available after dinner, which is great, especially for kids. I'm giving this place 4 out of 5 stars solely because of the shrimp. My advice is to skip the other stuff and go straight for the fried shrimp dinner. You will not be disappointed.

Best coconut shrimp in town. Would come back again just for that, but all in party were happy with their meals. Casual atmosphere. Good drinks and attentive wait staff.

Touristy type seafood restaurant located right on the Main Street, a short walk to the pier. Crab cakes were more breaking than crab but the fried shrimp were great...also good beer selection as well as mixed drinks.

  • Jamie J.

There's a reason why they have been voted best fried shrimp every yr since they opened. Soo good!! The managers are always greeting guests. The service is top notch. Always enjoy sitting at the bar when I go there. Make this your first stop on the island

  • Benjamin H.

This restaurant wasn't just good, it was great. Beautiful interior, pleasant staff that give personal attention to each patron. I had the shrimp and grits and a cup of crab bisque soup and I was blown away by everything about out. The grits are made into cakes and fried, the shrimp is blackened and gravy that's way too tasty to be good for you is poured over the whole thing. As desperately as I wanted to eat all of it, there was just too much. The soup was amazing, too. They have complimentary ice cream, but I was too full to try any. I can't think of a single bad thing to say about my experience there. 5 stars well deserved.

    (5)
  • Helen B.

We ate here once during our stay, and it was delicious! I had their shrimp, which was outstanding, fries and hushpuppies. My husband had their oysters and shrimp and he thought his meal was excellent as well. Prices were reasonable and we will come back here to eat next time we visit the Island.

    (4)
  • M V.

Been here three times. Had the crab bisque and buffalo shrimp all 3 times. Their crab bisque is exceptional. The service is always very, very good. It would have received 5 stars, but I keep ordering the same thing. Why mess with perfection? Did Ismtion the crab bisque is exceptional?

  • Al D.

We were very impressed with Iguanas. The atmosphere was very laid back and casual. We chose to sit outside and the weather was perfect. I ordered the "choose any two" seafood dinner with fried shrimp and mahi-mahi. My wife ordered the same with fried shrimp and crab cakes. The fried shrimp was incredible. They boast that they've been voted "best fried shrimp on the island" for 8 years in a row, and I believe it. It was incredible. For dessert? Free ice cream for everyone! They have a complimentary ice cream sundae bar inside! If I had to find something wrong with Iguana's, my fish was a tad bit dry, but was still good. We highly recommend this place!

We went into this restaurant knowing it was going to be an overpriced tourist trap, and it lived up to the expectations. We came for an early lunch and decided to sit out on the patio as the temperature was nice, and it was a good view for people/car watching. They had blaring music that made conversation nearly impossible, but thankfully another set of older guest that sat near us asked to have it turned down just after our arrival. Our server was pleasant and courteous, however when we asked for recommendations between a small list of options he was not particularly helpful by saying that everything there was good. We started with the buffalo shrimp appetizer however we found it was only six small shrimp in a very large bowl. The shrimp themselves were good, however the portion size was decidedly disappointing. Main entrées started at $15 and up. Since we were just having lunch and didn't want to spend a whole lot, we both just ordered sandwiches. I had the crabcake sandwich and my husband had the shrimp burger. Both were good, but nothing to write home about. Our server did earn some kudos by adding a few hush puppies to my plate after I asked if they came with the sandwiches (they do not). Over all, it was an ok dining experience and was the expected for a bar restaurant in the tourist area of a beach town.

Very good food, reasonable prices. Seemed as though there was a wide variety on the menu, settled with the Fish Dinner, the fish was cooked TO PERFECTION with light seasonings and breading... Would definitely recommend!

    (4)
  • Carolyn W.

Seafood was fresh wonderful light breading on most things. Dinner entrees in the 15 - 20 dollar range, free ice cream soft serve at the end of the meal. Tended to be noisy, my grandkids and son in law found dome video games to play good time, great food and service!

  • Shelly C.

Best shrimp on the island! The shrimp sampler may not look like much but the shrimp is fresh and succulent and packed with mouth-watering flavor! I believe the sampler has fried, coconut, buffalo and bacon wrapped shrimp--all equally complex and delicious. Your taste buds will be rocked!!!! When I skip all the other BS and go right into the food you know its good lol :) The day Future Hubs and I went they had a drink special called the Capri Sun-delicious and definately worth trying if available on your visit. Lastly how cool is it that they offer a complimentary ice cream bar for dessert ?! This place will make your belly happy :) and its not so bad on the wallet either.

I am from the area so I've had fried shrimp from all over... and this was some of the best I have ever had. Tasty! Great food, good atmosphere, and good service. Free soft serve ice cream

Great, simple, consistent fare. Visited twice in past year. Great texting service for waiting. Fried shrimp was great as always. Broiled shrimp much loved by my wife. All around solid place.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch and it was awesome. Best fried shrimp ever!! One of the best margaritas I've ever had ... and I've had a-plenty. Excellent, friendly and fast service. Plus, a complimentary soft serve ice cream buffet. Love this place and we'll be back.

Checked in here for lunch on a Tuesday around noon. Sat at the bar and started with 1/2 dozen oysters. Not the biggest, but tasted pretty good. Shrimp salad for the entree, which was very good. Bartender was friendly and knew everything about the area.

  • Toni W.

Five stars here! From the immediate seating, courteous and quick server, to our wonderful Poboys! The oysters in the Poboys were cooked like no other. Crisp on the outside and tender on the inside! We'll be back again on our next trip through!

The blackened chicken alfredo is so good here. You can't go wrong with any dish, but a great place to get a few beers and have a good meal with some friends and family. Also great for accommodating big parties.

Best shrimp on the island. It's a must to visit this place. Drinks not as good. Go early to avoid the wait.

  • Doug S.

The fried shrimp really did live up to its billing of having won "Best Fried Shrimp" for 8 years straight. Clam strips were awesome as well. Raw oysters were fresh & tasty. Only miss was the Mac & Cheese side. Bahama Mama was a strong pour, and service was very good.

There were four of us and we all thought everything was fantastic. Somehow I ended up getting the Barnie B. I am not that much of a fan of grits but this was the best dish I've had in a LONG time. The fish was really moist and had a very flavorful sauce. The fried shrimp and scallops my wife had were excellent as well. They almost didn't have batter they were so light. She started with a planters punch was quite good. The service was fantastic as well. Everyone who we talked to was very friendly and our server sure knew her stuff.

    (5)

Remoulade is awesome along with the blackened fish. Jack behind the bar is great. Definitely better than it looks from the outside!

    (4)
  • Dave D.

Outstanding atmosphere and great food. Steaks are usually iffy at a seafood place, but the ribeye was quite good. The trio seafood platter was to die for. Broiled scallops and fried shrimp were perfect. The crab cake was mediocre. I'd avoid that. Generous portion sizes. Complimentary soft serve ice cream cones or sundaes rounded out the meal. Abby was attentive without hovering as our server. The Kentucky bourbon barrel ale was interesting, but at. 8.5%, more than one will knock you on your duff.

  • Bill G.

Shrimp and Grits were unusual. Grits were cold presses into cubes, probably frozen, and French fried. Who cannot make fresh grits in the south? I order shrimp and grits when ever I find it, and I have never had Frozen Fried Grits Patties before. I will not be back for anything other than fried Shrimp - that they did well

  • Tito G.

I had the Oyster Po-boy. I was very disappointed that i only received 3 oysters on the entire sandwich. Yes only 3. The sandwich was good but would have been better if it had more than bread and a few oysters. The house made roumalade sauce was on point. The fried shrimp were delicious as advertised. Service was good not great. We will go back but no oyster po boy next time.

Ordered the shrimp dinner, food was delicious. The shrimp were a decent size and they gave me around 15 of them. My wife ordered the cowboy chicken sandwich (not a seafood person) and said it was really good. I will definitely make a return trip before leaving the island.

It was pretty good. The wait staff were very nice but very disorganized (likely not their fault). Nobody could seem to get a drink menu and it had to migrate from table to table. If I were the owner I'd be horrified because drinks are where the profit is. Shrimp was very good (fried was the best), burger was good as well as Mac and cheese. The lava flow was good but I've had much better. A bit too sweet.

Food is good, but some items are not worth the price of admission. Do not get the Cheese Bread appetizer. It's only 4 pieces of "frozen food isle" Texas Toast for $10. I had their famous shrimp and fried oysters for my meal. The side dishes were all mediocre. Instant potatoes with no gravy and hush puppies identical to the kind you can buy from a grocery store for cheap. The shrimp and oysters were tasty, however it was very greasy. It did not agree with my body at all. I felt queasy afterwards. Overall a decent meal. The quality of the food can be better. The prices should be lower if they are gonna serve the things I can buy myself for a fraction of the price. Eat here once if you really want to, other wise head on down the road to Barbara Jean's.

Iguana's is a nice, casual spot that does indeed serve some fabulous fried shrimp. Thumbs up on the margaritas and wait staff, as well. The fish sandwich was fresh, not greasy and large enough to share. The BLT, for those looking for a non-seafood option, was as good as any Jersey diner. Plus, the soft ice cream bar is a kid pleaser.

They claim that their Shrimp are award winning. And I'd believe it. Some of the best Shrimp I've ever had. I ordered the Fried Shrimp & Fried Clam Strips plate and I was very very satisfied. We ate outside when we were there and it was a great people watching on top of great food. We'll definitely be returning the next time we're on St. Simons.

Absolutely amazing! They are not kidding when they say their fried shrimp is the best. OMG! They were fabulous. We had the combo plate of fried shrimp and fried oysters. We also had the parmesan bacon oysters. Yummo! I definitely recommend this place. Give it a try when you are at St. Simons Island.

I have to admit that I looked at the other reviews before writing this because I wanted to see how everyone else felt about this restaurant. One of the reviews that I liked the best said "High priced tourist trap." I want to be fair and say that while my meal was fine it WAS very over priced for the portion size. I ordered the Buffalo Shrimp for an appetizer and got 6 small shrimp in a very large bowl. Shrimp was excellent but I felt like I got robbed on portion size. I ordered the Calamari and a Ceasar salad for dinner and those portions were fine. There were six people in my group and they were all separate checks and when I was ready to pay I was figuring the tip and was reminded by my friend that 18% had already been added, wow !?! Service was very slow and it to about fifteen minutes to get my first beer, even though the restaurant was not very busy. All in all it was around $46 for two beers, an appetizer and dinner...a bit much for bar food. Later in the evening one of my friends got very sick. He had Buffalo wings for an appetizer and steak with potatoes for dinner along with two diet colas. Bottom line, food was good but way over priced and portions were very small. Not certain that I would revisit. There was a framed award on the wall by the bar which said that this restaurant was rated the highest for the last three consecutive years by Trip Advisor. If you like to party this may be your bar, but eat before you come.

We had the fried native Georgia shrimp lunch special with hush puppies, cole slaw and green beans. The whole lunch was wonderful and everything was very fresh. This is the best shrimp we have had in the area. Our service was excellent as well.

Fried shrimp are good and the dipping sauce even better. Iguanas is somewhat loud and the atmosphere will not appeal to anyone looking for a nice quiet dining experience.

Bar food and people watching describes this eatery. The staff is friendly enough and will come check on you often. We grabbed a table outside for late lunch and ordered the fried shrimp special. It came with a side...being a lover of broccoli I chose that and my husband copied me...lol...shrimp serving was a little small but ample broccoli...no seasoning just steamed but cooked perfectly..had a lemon by the shrimp so I used that...delish...cole slaw a little too sweet for me but my husband loved it. Shrimp cooked well, not chewy or greasy and the sauce that comes with it is their own special blend of tartar sauce tomato very nice accompaniment with the fish. Hush puppies were disappointing but they are not my favorite thing to eat. My husband liked his crab bisque right amount of seasoning and not too heavy on the cream.

This is the place folks....don't miss it. Shrimp is just like they say..the best. Scallops..wonderful, fresh, moist, just right, oh yeah..and plenty. The fried fish and blackened is terrific. Even the sides are truly done with love and very flavorful. You can't beat the prices either.

Iguanas has raw oysters on the half shell! Finally after going from restaurant to restaurant around the village I finally found some raw oysters at Iguanas. They weren't the greatest in the world, but boy did they satisfy our cravings for some raw oysters upon a cracker covered with hot sauce and a squeeze of lemon. Yum! The drinks at Iguanas were great as well. They were served Island Style, strong and tasty! The bartender really knew her stuff when it came to making a mean drink; she was also very friendly and told us where the fun was to be had that night on the island.

If you like all things deep fried, this is your spot! The fried shrimp are really good & the fried clam strips are too. The crab cake was mushy & over-breaded. Really good onion rings. Surprisingly good- if small- draft beer list. Good food overall, but your cardiologist most certainly won't approve.

Fried shrimp are very good but restaurant is noisy- I sat at the bar and there was a very bad sour mop smell. They have a free ice cream bar (self serve)

Mixed emotions coming out of here..Pros: wings (mild) - hit with the kids ...calamari - fresh and made in house, good flavor, raw oysters - very fresh and good flavor...need some vinegar on the side, scallops - good size, go for the grilled and blackened for flavor, the coleslaw is great...So-So: Soft shell crab could have had more meat on it and it was too salty, shrimp over grits cakes. - shrimp was good grit cakes were over done but the grits inside the fried casing were really good and the sauce was good - would have been better with a bed of grits and one grit cake with the shrimp spooned over the cake and then the sauce..Cons - kitchen was slow and messed up who had what (wrong sides on plates)....we sat outside..nice

We were originally planning on going to another place to eat across the street but it was packed and we were starving. We weren't expecting much from a place caled Iguana's but we were pleasantly suprised. The decor was fun. The staff was friendly and the food was great. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and it was very tasty. Everyone else I was with raved about their food. I would go back here again in a heartbeat.

Lives up to the reviews. Went here with wife and 2 year old. Very friendly staff. Grouper blackened was very tasty. Greek salad was large and home made salad dressing hit the spot. Good beer selection. Ice cream machine was fun and easy dessert.

Since I have been disappointed in the past with "touristy" restaurants I was skeptical about trying Iguanas. After eating there it would have been a tragedy not to have tried this place. Service was excellent, the owner checked on me several times, and it was just an all around great place to eat. I ordered the shrimp n' grits and it was the best I have had. Skepticism put to rest. And the meal comes with a complimentary ice cream bar. Free dessert is always welcome. This is one touristy restaurant that I will definitely come back to for some more shrimp n grits.

We've Been here for years it used to be wonderful. It's went downhill. The teeny boppers running the front are running the patrons off with either 1) sir did you order?? Let me check you out... Wait what was I doing i forgot the sauce, causing the food to be terrible cold by the time the food all finally met. 2) mam, idk what that drink is, I'm too busy trying to get in your husbands pants.... 3) the shrimp and grits is a walking heart attack full of lard and the cheese sticks are terrible.

K and I were hungry when we arrived on St. Simons, so we stopped at Iguanas based on convenience. We will not make decisions on this criteria hereafter. We scored a table outside, and it was a very busy day. Our server was polite but pushy, shoving us through our ordering and meal process. I didn't appreciate being called 'buddy', and K noted that the server spent as much time inspecting herself in the window's reflection as she did providing us service. K wanted to try the bacon-wrapped shrimp as an appetizer, so we ordered it. They arrived with the bacon VERY lightly cooked (though not raw). The shrimp was overcooked (an odd counterpoint to the undercooked bacon), making it too firm but not exactly chewy. Luckily the remoulade sauce provided was nice or the food would have been inedible. in short, a beautiful idea poorly executed. I am loathe to order a po' boy outside of New Orleans or the Down Parish area, but I took the plunge anyway. I asked if the shrimp are locally-sourced and got an ambivalent response. The french fries accompanying it (points to the server for honesty) were of the Ore-Ida variety. The menu described it as being served on a hoagie bun, which I hoped was merely a misinterpretation of the French roll. Nope. It came on a limp, soft hoagie bun. Their description in the menu was accurate but still I was disappointed. Karen ordered the blackened Grouper sandwich which she ate open-faced. She proclaimed the fish to be pleasant and the sample I tried was good. In summary: if you are fine with indifferent service and mediocre food that is not a good value for the price, this is the place for you. K and I will not return here no matter how many times we visit St. Simons Island.

Great atmosphere and food! I love sitting outside and looking down the street at the ocean! The buffalo shrimp is probably the best dish I've had here! Also, you can make a free ice cream sundae after your meal!

Nice family restaurant. The shrimp was really, really good, but the crab cakes were SOOO bad I couldn't eat them. It is worth a trip there for the shrimp, but stay away from the crab cakes.

Had lunch on Wed Oct 9, 2013. We had all appetizers. Crab Poppers, Baconwrapped BBQ Shrimp, and Onion Rings. They were tasty with the exception of the shrimp being tough overlooked. They have a complimentary sundae bar for dessert.

I have been here a few times before. I always got excellent service, and the food was of high quality. But the last visit really has me wondering. Me and my mother were seated quickly. While our waitress was quick to take our drink and food orders, she didn't really check on us very much. The food, when brought, was of its usual excellent quality. However, we were visited by a German cockroach which crawled on to my mother's plate. To their credit, the manager was quick to respond and remove the offending insect. But he apparently thought it simply flew in, and wasn't a big deal. I'm still not convince, but he did agree to take care of the bill as compensation. We didn't stay to complete the meal however. Given that my previous trips have shown the place to be consistently clean, I would assume that this is a one time issue that will hopefully be taken care of. But there is always that voice of doubt that will be there for me, so it will be a while before I return, if at all. I'd give the rating 1 1/2 stars, as what we ate of our dinner did taste good, but the potential sanitation issue is concerning.

We were attracted to this place because of their advertised amazing shrimp. I ordered the fried shrimp and to be honest it was very, very good, probably the best I've had on the island. Our waiter didn't write our order down and yeap our order was messed up. My wife's order was so messed up she couldn't eat it and when we told him he took it back but didn't offer to fix it. We thought he wouldn't charge us but wrong again. I was really impressed with their draft beer selection, good variety of ales, pale ales, wheats, porters and lagers. This place would had received four starts if not for our waiter and it was a little over priced.

I ordered a burger at a sea food place, and was pleasantly surprised. Fried Calamari appetizer however was pretty bad. Still that isn't my issue with this place. The problem? Hunting down our waitress for a refill, another flag down to get some mustard, trying to get the check, and finally waiting for them to actually charge me. I can understand if they were busy, but it was a slow day with several waitress just hanging out looking bored. I was curious to come back when I was in the mood for their seafood, but they lost me with their service.

We had a large group of 8, including children, and we really enjoyed our meal here. We loved the raw oysters, crab legs and broiled scallops. The fried oysters were good. Our waitress did a great job. We all left full and satisfied, can't ask for much more!

It's what you expect for a restaurant blaring Buffet. All the food is (over)fried. But the table service is friendly. While not exactly kid-friendly, the kids menu is ample sized.

Great Resturant. Probably best grilled shrimp I've ever eaten. Loved the glazed Mahi over potatoes with broccoli. Absolutely awesome.

For a moderate level sea food place, they executed very well. My broiled shrimp were properly seasoned and cooked perfectly so they were nice and tender (not chewy!). The crab cake was great in that it was all crab, just not all lump crab. and was too greasy for my taste, but not bad. Free soft serve ice cream after dinner was a nice bonus on a hot summer day.

Oops, I started this review on 9/25/11 during my business trip to the area. I had the shrimp special for dinner which was just perfect. Great service and focused attention during dinner. The plus was soft serve ice cream that's available for that end of the meal treat. It's an interesting place, nice atmosphere with great mural paintings on the walls with a very nice bar. Outside seating is available for those wonderful warm days to watch the world goes by. Great place for a good dinner. The souviner t-shirts available for sale are really great and make a good gift to bring home. Give them a try, I'm sure you'll be pleased. A great place to sit-back, relax and enjoy life.

What a great seafood restaurant. 5 of us went last night, we had a great waitress, Emily. She really made our night and the dining experience great. We had the shrimp sampler appetizer and everyone ordered something different for their meal. Everything was fabulous. Emily really was knowledgable about the beer selection and the food and answered all our questions. Thank you Emily for a great time!!!!

Best shrimp & grouper I've had in a very long time, & I just got back from Monterey CA! Try the Peach Margarita but be forewarned, they put sugar on the rim instead of salt! For all you military aviators, forget the ..bay & try this place!

Went to Iguana's because it was one of the restaurants in the Village that was open later, and we are so glad that we did! The peel and eat shrimp is absolutely fantastic. They get their shrimp fresh every day from the docks and you can definitely tell how fresh it is. We also had the crabcake, calamari, and fried mushrooms which were all delicious as well, but I would definitely say the shrimp was the standout. Also, they offer free soft serve ice cream at the end of your meal, which is also delicious and fun!

I had lunch here with my family and we all enjoyed it. The portions are big. The shrimp did not disappoint and my parents really liked the onion rings. The waiter we had was attentive and very polite. We felt like we made a good choice for our first meal out on the island.

Agree with many previous reviewers. Ordered a combination seafood plate with fried shrimp and grouper with side of coleslaw. I chose grits with cheese as my side dish. Shrimps were to die for. You must order them when you're here. Service was friendly. Free ice cream sundaes were a nice end of meal touch.

The casual beachy atmosphere and seafood classics at Iguanas made this the perfect place to jump-start our island vacation. We enjoyed everything from the Lynchburg Lemonade to the free soft-serve at the end of our meal. As you've probably gathered by now, this place is famous for it's fried shrimp and we were pretty impressed. We tried the sampler of all 4 varieties (fried, bacon wrapped, coconut and buffalo) and the classic came out on top as our favorite, with the spicy buffalo a close second. I'd probably skip the bacon wrapped and the coconut next time. For the entree we split a combo platter with the crabcake, blackened grouper, hush puppies, cole-slaw and grits. Everything was great and we cleaned our plate. The fish was surprisingly well cooked and well seasoned, the crab cake filled with huge chunks of Maryland lump crab meat Nothing gourmet, but still a great place to relax with a drink and some fried seafood.

We were greeted by very friendly servers and the service was excellent after that. The shrimp is to die for! We are from Florida and have been eating fresh shrimp all of our lives but agreed that the fried shrimp with the remoulade sauce is absolutely the best we've ever had! The wines were good and there was a vast array of mixed drinks and beers available as well. I had the special that was fried oysters and fried shrimp and I'm not much of a fried oyster fan but these were fabulous - not greasy at all and very tasty. Definitely will go there again next time we're in the area.

Had lunch outside on St. Patty's day. Staff were very friendly and outgoing. Ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer... and were shocked at how terrible it looked. They were tiny dried up pre-frozen rubber! Saddened by this, I hoped that their entrees would be better. Ordered the crabcake sandwich that comes with this yummy homemade sauce. Loved it! Had it not been for the sorry calamari, I would give 5 stars.

We had the Shrimp special for lunch $10, 7 shrimp either fried, grill, blacken or buffalo. We had the fried shrimp, very light batter and very good (sweet)! Comes with cole slaw, and two hush puppies and one other side. They also bring their special remoulade sauce for the shrimp. I'm a ketchup kind of guy and my wife likes cocktail sauce. We both tried the remoulade sauce and thought it was great and used that instead of our usual. The inside has cool mural paintings running all around from floor to ceiling (nicely done). They were voted best shrimp 4 years in a row and I'm glad one of the locals recommended it to us. Our waitress Olivia couldn't have been nicer, always there checking to see if we needed a refill on our ice tea, etc. The outside of the place doesn't look all they great, but don't let that stop you, the inside is clean, quiet and the food is great. If we make it back to the area, this will be one of our places for food, maybe the only one!
